MOUNTAIN BIKING

Many of the hiking trails are compatible for mountain biking. When on the trail that are for both hiking and riding, please observe caution. Some of the roads in the outlying areas are great for riding.

Probably the best mountain biking area is the Westerly Hills section. This area has undeveloped roads with one downhill through the woods. Wild Iris Loop Trail is a good, easy trail with some gentle grades. A favorite of local bikers is the West Bowl Loop which can be done in either direction, starting the Beech Mountain Parkway trail head. Exercise caution when on this trail. It is sometimes us by motorized vehicles.

For a more advanced downhill course through wooded areas, the Grassy Gap Creek Trail is a good choice. Always watch for hikers. Access at the Arrowwood Trail Head starts with rock steps that you'll have to negotiate. This trail ends up at Buckeye Lake.

If an 8 mile loop which includes many of the above mentioned hikes is for your liking, you can take the Buckeye Gap Loop Trail.

Whichever trail you take, enjoy Beech Mountain.

Please do not ride on trails designated for hiking only.
