It's Not About The Bike
"The rides were demanding
and quiet, and I rode with
a pure love of the bike,
until Boone began to
feel like the Holy Land
to me, a place I had come
to on a pilgrimage.
If I ever have any serious
problems again, I know
that I will go back to Boone
and find an answer.
I got my life back on those
rides."

0 Start at Beech Mountain Town Hall, turn left out of parking lot towards the ski resort.

4.73 Pine Ridge turns into Grassy Creek Road.
5.58 Buckeye Recreation Area (elevation here is 3475').
6.06 Pinnacle Ridge Road begins (Buckeye Road is the gravel road that goes right.)
This is a steep road for the next two miles. 11.2% averge grade with one section over 22% (elevation here is 3645'.)
8.16 Pinnacle Road ends. Continue straight uphill on North Pinnacle Ridge Road (elevation here is 4710').
9.01  Arrive at "the Crest of Beech" subdivision.
9.22 Road turns right and gravel section begins (a short tenth of a mile uphill just ahead.) There is a brief paved section (50 feet or so) and then a level section of gravel. This is the Oz Road.

10.24 The top of the ski slopes and the Land of Oz bridge (elevation here is 5435'). Turn around here.
* an option here is to continue straight and go down the Oz Circle and back for an extra .5 mile (.25 mile climb of 11% grade.)
10.84 Back to the gate on the Oz Road. Go to the right side of the gate to get around. It may require putting foot down to do this. Continue on this road (the Summer Road) across the ski slopes.
11.24 Go to the left of this gate to get around, and again, this may require putting a foot down. Continue straight (downhill.) You will see the Town Hall on the left.
* an option here is to go right on Ski Loft Road for a .33 mile, 10% average grade climb to 5320' elevation (.66 up and back).
11.36 Beech Mountain Town Hall. Whew! (elevation here is 5060')
